Description of Chimpanzee Painting
This chimpanzee painting depicts a chimpanzee laughing. This painting was made using watercolors with canvas as the medium. The colors of the chimpanzees are made as close to the original as possible. So this painting looks really real.
Characteristics of Chimpanzee
Chimpanzees have large, fat bodies, large necks, long and strong arms. It even has short, bent legs, and no tail. In fact chimpanzees are about 1.25 to 1.5 meters tall. In addition, the chimpanzee’s body is covered with brownish-red fur. They have a large head with a high mouth position. They have the same senses as humans. There are five senses namely hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. Male chimpanzees weigh about fifty to ninety kg. While the female chimpanzee weighs about 30 to 50 kg. Their palms have four long fingers plus 1 thumb. The soles of their feet also have an arrangement of toes that are very similar to humans. Chimpanzees are still included in great ape species such as gorillas. Great apes are mammals, have large brains, eyes that point forward, and hands that can grip.
The habitat of the Chimpanzee
Chimpanzees are found in tropical rain forests on the island of Borneo, in lowland areas to mountainous areas. They usually live in dense trees and make their nests out of leaves. This animal population is endemic on the island of Borneo, which includes Indonesia and Malaysia. The main causes of threats to Chimpanzee populations are deforestation and habitat destruction. Most of this occurs due to forest conversion for oil palm plantations or for other agricultural land. Chimpanzees are also easy targets for hunting because of their large bodies and slow movements. Mother Chimpanzees found by hunters will usually be killed. Meanwhile, young chimpanzees will be taken as pets.
Taiwan is one of the countries that imports a lot of chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are illegally imported as pets. Chimpanzees also have a very low reproductive rate. A mother chimpanzee will only give birth to a baby chimp every three to five years. So when there is a population decline it will be very difficult for chimpanzees to recover. With increasing human pressure on their habitat, chimpanzees are on the verge of extinction. The loss of chimpanzees will result in the extinction of other species as well. Chimpanzees are gardeners for forest ecosystems that help disperse plant seeds from the fruit they eat. Thus, these plant species can regenerate and sustainably become a habitat and food source for other species. It is estimated that for every one orangutan exported to Taiwan, three to five other animals will die.
